Da Paolo Bistro Bar

Da Paolo Bistro Bar

Firstly I would like to apologise for the lack of blogging lately. It’s been a crazy few months since returning from Singapore. So I’m taking us back to our trip to Singapore. This was an awesome place that we went meeting up with my mum’s friend and son.

Making the most of its lush Rochester Park setting, this European-style restaurant has plenty of cool outdoor seating. Being in the restaurant just didn’t feel like we were in bustling Singapore. Da Paolo Restaurant & Bistro Bar offers a superb al fresco dining option. It’s great for dinner (maybe not for lunch under the scorching sun), otherwise you can always choose to dine indoors.

Da Paolo Bistro Bar at Rochester Bar is a cross between their restaurant and pizza bar. The restaurant has two open kitchens, with the pizza bar being positioned near the entrance of the restaurant and the main kitchen on the further end.

The menu focuses on Italian grilled meats, cooked with a light dash of olive oil and herbs. There is also an antipasti bar on the upper level.

Being such a hot day, I decided to try their grilled tiger prawns on a bed of iceberg salad accompanied with watermelon, red onions, crushed peanuts and a splash of Asian vinaigrette dressing. It was pretty ordinary, wished I had ordered one of their pizzas instead.

Mum’s lunch was much nicer, it was lobster talioni arrabiatta with was homemade talioni (long flat ribbons) with rock lobster, crayfish and cherry tomatoes in a rich arrabiatta sauce.  The pasta was cooked al dente, the sauce was delicious and there were large chunks of rock lobster and crayfish.

I couldn’t leave this restaurant without trying their salted caramel panna cotta with candied almond popcorn! It was absolutely to die for! It is a royal roulette of taste and texture. Dense and creamy caramel Panna Cotta is served in a pretty jar next to a rocky knoll of crunchy almond popcorn. The interaction of flavor and layered textures succeeded in knocking my gym socks off. Finish with some finesse (& dignity) by sipping on the chilled bitter chocolate coffee – I’m guessing this might be the Italian demonstration of gastronomical yin and yang.

What a lovely way to spend the afternoon in this beautiful space, yummy food surrounded by lush greenery and water features.

On the whole, 8 for food quality, 8 ½ for atmosphere and 8 ½ for service.
